Hyderabad Police took action against 23 foreigners who were found to be overstaying in India during a thorough Cordon and Search Operation. The operation, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police G. Chandra Mohan in Golconda Zone, targeted specific areas like Paramount Colony, IAS Colony, and Hakeempet Kunta. A total of 250 personnel were involved in the operation, which aimed to identify individuals with expired visas.
The enforcement operation comprised 10 search teams, seven cut-off teams, five lifting teams, and two holding points to ensure a comprehensive sweep of the designated areas. Working closely with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in Hyderabad, officials successfully identified and detained 23 foreigners from various countries residing illegally in the city. Apart from the individuals, the police also confiscated 30 two-wheelers lacking proper documentation, nine gas cylinders used for unauthorized gas refilling, and 53 liquor bottles being illegally possessed or sold.
Golconda Zone police emphasized their commitment to public safety and the strict enforcement of residency regulations. Legal actions are now being pursued against the offenders to uphold the law. While the nationalities of the detained foreigners were not disclosed, it is noted that many foreigners, particularly from African nations, reside in Paramount Colony and other parts of Tolichowki. Similar operations have been conducted previously to address the issue of foreigners overstaying in the city.
In recent months, collaborative efforts between the police, FRRO, and other agencies have resulted in the deportation of foreigners who remained in India beyond their visa expiration. Notably, these actions were taken in response to various drug-related cases involving foreigners. An instance cited was the arrest of a Nigerian national by the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) for illegal overstay and association with drug peddlers, leading to the individual’s deportation to Nigeria to prevent potential threats to national security.
