Hyderabad Police detained Telangana Congress leaders who were marching towards Lok Bhavan to protest the detention of Rahul Gandhi and other Congress members in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence in New Delhi. Among those detained were Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud, state minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, government advisor Mohammed Ali Shabbir, Balmori Venkat, and Rohin Reddy. The police moved the TPCC president and ministers to Nampally Police Station, while the rest were taken to Punjagutta Police Station.
On the call of TPCC president, a large group of Congress leaders and workers gathered at Indira Gandhi’s statue at Necklace Road and proceeded towards Lok Bhavan, carrying banners, party flags, and chanting slogans. Notable figures like Ministers Damodar Rajanarasimha, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, and Mohammed Azharuddin also joined the rally. The police intercepted the march at Khairatabad Crossroads.
State Congress chief expressed that the detention of Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders signifies an assault on democracy. He emphasized that Rahul Gandhi’s fight is for the nation’s future and criticized the Modi government’s attempts to hinder him. Srinivas Reddy condemned the detention of Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and other Congress leaders, stating that the Telugu community disapproves of it.
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, along with ministers Ponnam Prabhakar and Konda Surekha, engaged in a protest in Hanamkonda, denouncing the police’s use of force against students protesting in New Delhi. Vikramarka criticized the government for not addressing the demands of the protesting youth and instead resorting to suppressing their voices. In Khammam, Congress leaders led a significant rally, with Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao and other Congress members participating.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy previously led a protest rally in Kodangal, Vikarabad district, reiterating the call for the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
