With New Year celebrations approaching, Hyderabad Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar has issued a warning against drunk driving. Special checks for drunken driving will be carried out in 120 areas of the city on the night of December 31 and January 1. The crackdown will extend into the first week of January, with strict penalties for offenders.
Vehicles of individuals caught driving under the influence of alcohol will be confiscated, and heavy fines will be imposed. Offenders may also face imprisonment, cancellation of their driving license, and other legal actions. The Commissioner emphasized the importance of responsible behavior and encouraged revelers to use cabs or designated drivers if they have consumed alcohol.
The police will also take action against reckless driving, triple riding, and any behavior causing public disturbance. Commissioner Sajjanar urged the public to celebrate safely with their loved ones during the festive period. Known for his tough stance against drunk driving, he has been using social media to raise awareness about the dangers of driving under the influence.
In a bid to ensure the safety of individuals who may be unable to return home after consuming alcohol, the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union (TGPWU) has announced a free transportation service. Operated in collaboration with Bijliride, this service will be available from 11 p.m. on December 31 to 1 a.m. on January 1, covering Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Rachakonda Police Commissionerates.
