Hyderabad Police’s ‘C-Mitra’ initiative has helped over 100 victims of cybercrime in registering First Information Reports (FIRs) without visiting a police station within just 10 days. Launched on January 9 by City Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar, this unique initiative is the first of its kind in the country. The virtual help desk has successfully engaged with 1,000 victims, resulting in the filing of more than 100 FIRs.
The C-Mitra team, leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI), contacts victims who report crimes through the 1930 helpline or the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. They assist in drafting a legally sound complaint, which is then sent to the victim via WhatsApp or email. Once the victim signs and sends the copy to the Basheerbagh Cyber Crime Station, the FIR is promptly registered without any delays, and a copy is directly sent to the victim’s mobile phone, eliminating the need for long waits at police stations.
To ensure efficient service, the Cyber Crime wing has established a dedicated 24-member team working in two shifts from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The initiative has received acclaim for its empathetic approach. Deekshita, a woman constable involved with the team, highlighted how C-Mitra bridges the gap between citizens and the police, providing reassurance and support. Prithvika, another constable, praised the initiative for its blend of technology and compassion, aiming to combat cybercrime effectively in Hyderabad.
