An official from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board has been sent to judicial custody for 14 days by an ACB court. The official, S.A. Laxmi Kumar, was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau and presented before the court, which then remanded him to custody. He was subsequently transferred to Chanchalguda Central Prison.
Laxmi Kumar, who serves as the General Manager (Engg.) in Project Division-VIII at Red Hills for HMWS&SB, faced allegations after assets worth over Rs. 5.88 crore were discovered in locations associated with him. The ACB accused him of amassing assets beyond his known income sources through corrupt practices during his tenure.
The ACB revealed that searches conducted on his premises and those of his relatives, friends, and associates uncovered documents related to substantial assets, including agricultural land, plots, flats, and a house in Hyderabad. Additionally, significant amounts of cash, gold, silver items, a car, and a motorbike were found at his residence.
According to the ACB, the value of the assets discovered could be significantly higher than the documented amount. Further investigations are ongoing to verify additional assets, with the case still under scrutiny. Searches were carried out at multiple locations simultaneously by ACB officials, including his residence in Mallapur, where cash, valuables, and property-related documents were seized.
