Hyundai Motor and Kia achieved record vehicle sales in the United States in February, driven by high demand for SUVs and hybrid models. The two South Korean automakers collectively sold 137,412 vehicles, marking a 5% increase from the previous year. Hyundai Motor, along with its luxury brand Genesis, sold 71,407 units, up by 5.7%, while Kia saw a 4.3% increase with 66,005 units sold, both achieving their highest-ever February sales.
Hyundai Motor’s success was attributed to the strong sales of midsize and large SUVs. The Palisade recorded a 28.4% increase in sales to 10,025 units, and the Santa Fe saw an 18.6% rise to 11,344 units. On the other hand, Kia experienced significant growth in key models, with the Telluride SUV sales surging by 68.7% to 13,198 units and the K5 sedan sales jumping by 60.6% to 13,198 units.
However, sales of electric vehicles (EVs) declined by 21.9% year-on-year to 5,576 units, mainly due to the impact of auto tariffs and reduced subsidies in the U.S. market. Despite this, both Hyundai Motor and Kia had also reported record vehicle sales in January, driven by the strong demand for SUVs and hybrid models.
