ICC chairman Jay Shah expressed his condolences on the passing of former Afghanistan fast bowler Shapoor Zadran at the age of 38. Zadran, who played a vital role in Afghanistan’s cricket success, died in India after battling a severe illness.
Zadran, a left-arm pacer, represented Afghanistan in 44 ODIs and 36 T20Is from 2009 to 2020. He had been receiving treatment in a New Delhi hospital for stage four Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), a rare immune disorder.
Shah praised Zadran’s impact on Afghanistan cricket, highlighting his outstanding performance in Afghanistan’s first Cricket World Cup win against Scotland in 2015. He extended sympathies to Zadran’s family, friends, and the entire Afghan cricket community.
