The International Cricket Council is set to hold its quarterly meetings in India, specifically in Ahmedabad later this month. However, there are doubts surrounding the participation of Mohsin Naqvi due to the strained relations between the BCCI and the PCB. The ICC chief executives’ committee will convene virtually on May 21, followed by the in-person ICC Board meeting on May 30 and 31 in Ahmedabad, coinciding with the final weekend of the Indian Premier League 2026.
The meetings were initially planned for Doha, Qatar, in March and April but were relocated to India due to the ongoing crisis in West Asia. With the change in location to Ahmedabad, uncertainty looms over whether PCB chairman Naqvi will attend the crucial gathering in India. Reports suggest that Naqvi, who typically represents Pakistan at the ICC Board meetings, might not be able to make the trip due to the current political and cricketing tensions between India and Pakistan.
Mohsin Naqvi’s attendance at the ICC Board meeting has been a customary practice as Pakistan’s representative. However, recent political strains and deteriorating cricket relations between the two boards have cast a shadow of doubt over his presence. The relationship between Naqvi and the BCCI has reportedly soured since his appointment as the head of the PCB, with tensions escalating following an incident during the Asia Cup in Dubai.
Following India’s victory in the Asia Cup, reports emerged that the Indian team declined to accept the winner’s trophy from Naqvi, who also serves as the president of the Asian Cricket Council and Pakistan’s federal interior minister. This awkward situation culminated in Naqvi leaving the stadium with the trophy and medals, which are said to still be in Dubai under his directive. The BCCI has requested the return of the silverware and has brought the matter to the attention of the ICC.
