One of Hindi cinema’s most iconic heartbreak songs, ‘Tadap Tadap Ke’ from ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’, was not originally composed for the film. Music composer Ismail Darbar revealed that the chartbuster was initially a scratch track for another major project before it made its way into Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s blockbuster. Darbar reflected on the struggles before his breakthrough and how the song eventually landed in Bhansali’s film.
He humorously mentioned that the song was meant for another big film before Bhansali approached him. After working on the project for six months, Bhansali felt that the song completed his film. During an episode of ‘Indian Idol’, contestant Manraj Veer’s performance led Darbar to reminisce about the song’s journey and his first meeting with late singer KK.
Darbar recalled his first encounter with KK at Purple Haze Studio in Bandra while working on the song. KK’s initial reaction to the song surprised the judges. Darbar convinced KK to trust the process, emphasizing that his voice was perfect for the composition. Despite initial hesitation, KK eventually agreed to sing the song.
According to Darbar, KK’s wife was the first to be moved to tears upon hearing the song during the recording session. ‘Tadap Tadap Ke’ featured Salman Khan as Sameer and glimpses of Aishwarya Rai as Nandini.
