Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee and WRI India have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in areas like sustainable batteries, electric mobility, resource efficiency, battery recycling, clean energy transition, and policy research. This partnership aims to support joint research projects, academic collaborations, policy studies, knowledge-sharing initiatives, workshops, training programs, conferences, and student and faculty exchanges. The focus will be on sustainable mobility, battery technologies, critical mineral value chains, and circular economy practices.
The collaboration is timely as India experiences a surge in renewable energy adoption, electric mobility growth, and advanced manufacturing, leading to a rising need for sustainable battery technologies, robust supply chains, and efficient resource management. Prof. Kamal Kishore Pant, Director of IIT Roorkee, emphasized the necessity for strong partnerships among academic institutions, industry, research organizations, and policymakers to achieve a sustainable and self-reliant energy future.
Prof. Vivek Kumar Malik, Dean SRIC at IIT Roorkee, highlighted that the agreement establishes a crucial framework for joint research and academic involvement. By leveraging IIT Roorkee’s research capabilities and WRI India’s sustainable development expertise, the collaboration aims to deliver meaningful outcomes that contribute to technological progress and evidence-based decision-making. The MoU was signed by Prof. Vivek Kumar Malik from IIT Roorkee and Pawan Kumar Mulukutla from WRI India.
