Illegal dhabas and eateries along the National Highways will be evicted to prevent truck parking. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is taking steps to eliminate unauthorized parking and encroachments to enhance safety and ensure smooth traffic flow. This action follows the Supreme Court’s directives against truck parking on National Highway stretches, except at designated locations, to reduce accidents.
NHAI has identified 595 critical spots of unauthorized parking across different states and is collaborating with state governments and enforcement agencies for their removal. Efforts are underway to clear encroachments from National Highway corridors under the Control of National Highways (Land and Traffic) Act, 2002. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways emphasized the risks posed by unauthorized activities along highways and the need for coordinated action to address these challenges.
To enhance safety measures, NHAI is working with state governments to establish District Highway Safety Task Forces and appoint nodal officers for monitoring compliance. The Authority is conducting audits of Advanced Traffic Management System installations to ensure operational efficiency of safety components like traffic monitoring cameras and emergency call boxes. Measures such as deploying ambulances, enhancing highway patrolling, and integrating alerts with enforcement agencies aim to improve incident response and ensure safer travel for highway users nationwide.
