The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall and strong winds in 11 districts of Tamil Nadu over the next two days. A low-pressure area extending from the central Bay of Bengal to coastal Karnataka is active, affecting weather conditions in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. The system is expected to bring heavy rain and gusty winds to hilly areas like Tirunelveli, Coimbatore, Kanyakumari, and others.
Authorities have advised residents in vulnerable areas, especially those near hill slopes and low-lying regions, to stay cautious due to potential intense rainfall and strong winds. For northern coastal districts such as Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpattu, moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is forecasted. While widespread flooding is not expected, localized waterlogging may occur in urban areas with intense showers.
The IMD has also forecasted heavy rainfall on Friday in districts like Dindigul, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, and others. This prediction is due to moisture-laden winds feeding the weather system over southern India. Meteorologists note that the current weather pattern aligns with the active southwest monsoon phase affecting peninsular India, with sustained rainfall anticipated in Tamil Nadu in the coming days.
Fishermen, farmers, and residents in rain-prone regions are advised to stay updated on official weather alerts and take necessary precautions. Disaster management and local authorities are closely monitoring the evolving weather situation as Tamil Nadu prepares for another round of widespread rain.
