The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted moderate rainfall in the Western Ghats districts of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday. Isolated areas may experience thundershowers along with lightning and gusty winds. A low-pressure trough from southern Gujarat to central Kerala is influencing these weather conditions.
One or two places in the Western Ghats are expected to have moderate rain, thunderstorms, and strong surface winds in the next 48 hours. This weather system could lead to unstable atmospheric conditions in hilly districts, urging authorities and residents to stay vigilant, especially in landslide-prone areas.
While light rainfall is forecasted in other parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, heavy rain is not anticipated outside the Western Ghats. Brief showers might occur in various districts due to local weather patterns. In Chennai and its suburbs, the sky will be mostly cloudy over the next two days, with only isolated light showers possible in some areas.
The IMD also expects maximum temperatures in many parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and the Karaikal region to be 2 to 3 degrees Celsius above normal. The combination of high temperatures and humidity could create uncomfortable weather conditions, especially in coastal and interior plains.
Meteorologists highlight that the low-pressure trough from southern Gujarat to central Kerala is facilitating moisture transport over southern India. This setup favors rainfall in the Western Ghats but limits precipitation in other parts of the state. Residents in hilly districts are advised to be cautious during thunderstorms and avoid unnecessary travel in landslide-prone areas during heavy showers.
