The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rain alert for 16 districts of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday and Thursday. The districts include Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Tiruppur, Tirunelveli, and others where heavy rainfall is expected. The IMD also mentioned that the southwest monsoon may arrive in Kerala on Thursday.
Conditions in Tamil Nadu worsened due to heavy rain on Tuesday, causing flooding and disruptions. In Namakkal district, rainwater entered a government hospital, leading to inconvenience for patients. Waterlogging in the new bus stand market area of the same district affected business operations.
Tirupattur district experienced hailstorms in certain areas, along with strong winds that uprooted trees. Tiruvannamalai district faced heavy rain, resulting in power outages and injuries. Other districts like Tiruppur, Erode, and Madurai also witnessed heavy showers, leading to road inundation and power disruptions.
In Kodaikanal, sudden dense fog and light rain created low visibility conditions during the day. Chennai is expected to have partly cloudy skies with chances of moderate rain and thunderstorms in some areas. The weather department continues to monitor the situation closely.
