The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and Raigad districts in Maharashtra. Residents are cautioned about moderate to intense spells of rainfall expected over the next three hours. Heavy rain, along with gusty winds of 50-60 kmph, is anticipated in Mumbai and its suburbs.
Mumbai experienced heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours, with the Mandvi Fire Station recording the highest rainfall at 150.2 mm. This continuous downpour has led to waterlogging and traffic congestion, disrupting normal life in the financial capital. Various areas in Mumbai, including Malabar Hill and Andheri, have reported significant rainfall levels.
The heavy rainfall has caused severe waterlogging in several parts of Mumbai, impacting major traffic routes. Dadar East and Sion Gandhi Market are among the areas affected by flooding, causing inconvenience to commuters. In Santacruz, a tree collapse resulted in injuries to eight individuals amidst the ongoing heavy rains.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) received multiple complaints related to incidents like tree falls, short circuits, and partial house collapses. However, no casualties were reported in these incidents. The IMD has also issued a warning regarding a high tide expected at 2:18 p.m. on Friday, urging caution in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
