The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of thunderstorms, lightning, and rainfall in Delhi-NCR. The weather advisory predicts unsettled conditions with the possibility of rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds on June 11 and 12. An orange alert has been issued for the national capital due to the expected weather activity.
Several regions, including Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, and Northeastern states, are also likely to experience significant weather changes. Delhi is expected to face strong surface winds with speeds ranging from 50 to 60 kmph and gusts up to 70 kmph. The city may witness isolated dust storms, lightning strikes, and thunderstorm activity throughout the day. Despite the forecasted rain, hot and humid conditions are likely to persist, with temperatures ranging from 27 to 42 degrees Celsius.
The southwest monsoon is anticipated to reach Delhi and the National Capital Region between June 25 and June 30. Afterward, it is expected to progress into northwestern India, covering states like Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh, and Jammu and Kashmir. Weather conditions are expected to improve slightly on June 12, with temperatures likely to decrease. Uttar Pradesh is also expected to experience rainfall, thundersqualls, and dust storms, with winds reaching 80 kmph. Kerala, on the other hand, is forecasted to witness widespread rainfall, with some areas expecting heavy showers, potentially leading to waterlogging and localized flooding.
