The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for heavy rain and thunderstorms across 15 states, warning of intense rainfall, strong winds, and lightning. States like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar may experience heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds with speeds up to 70 kilometers per hour, potentially causing damage to trees, electric poles, and crops. Residents are advised to stay indoors during thunderstorms, avoid seeking shelter under trees, and follow local authorities’ advisories to prevent disruptions to transport and power supply.
In Himachal Pradesh, the Meteorological Centre in Shimla has issued an Orange Alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts from July 19 to July 23. A fresh Western Disturbance is expected to become active in the region alongside the southwest monsoon, leading to widespread rainfall. Authorities have issued a Yellow Alert for heavy rainfall in specific districts, urging residents and tourists to remain vigilant, especially in landslide and flash flood-prone areas.
Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) is also under a warning from the IMD, with heavy rainfall forecasted, posing risks of flash floods, landslides, and waterlogging in low-lying areas over the next few days. Special caution is advised for Saturday night, Sunday morning, and between July 20 and 22 due to expected severe weather conditions. Residents are cautioned against visiting water bodies, traveling on hilly roads, and are instructed to follow local administration guidelines closely.
Residents in affected regions are urged to monitor official weather bulletins and advisories closely as weather conditions may change rapidly during the monsoon spell. Disaster management agencies have been put on high alert to respond promptly to any emergencies arising from adverse weather conditions.
