The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar has forecasted widespread rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in Odisha over the next three days. Director Manorama Mohanty mentioned that the state experienced scattered to fairly widespread rainfall in the past 24 hours, with Dhenkanal district recording the highest rainfall at 119.6 mm. Expect light to moderate rain or thundershowers in many places across various districts in Odisha within the next 24 hours.

The IMD has issued a yellow warning for Sundargarh, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj, anticipating heavy rainfall in one or two places in these districts on July 21. Mohanty added that heavy rainfall is likely to persist in several districts over the following 48 hours, affecting both coastal and interior regions. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are also expected during this period.

People, especially those in vulnerable and low-lying areas, are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions during thunderstorms and heavy rainfall. Fishermen are cautioned to check for the latest weather updates before heading out to sea. Rainfall activity is anticipated to continue across Odisha for the next few days, with isolated heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds expected in various districts.

The IMD is closely monitoring the evolving weather system and will provide further updates as needed. Continuous rainfall due to a low-pressure system has caused waterlogging in low-lying areas of Dhenkanal, Kataka, and other coastal districts. Connectivity to several villages in central and coastal districts has been disrupted, with roads washed away from river breaches. Heavy rainfall has also damaged vegetable and standing crops, posing challenges for farmers in many parts of the state.
