The International Monetary Fund (IMF) expressed sympathy for the victims of the recent devastating earthquake in Venezuela. Julie Kozack, Director of the IMF’s Communications Department, mentioned that they were closely working with Venezuelan authorities to assess the economic impact of the disaster and determine the best way to support recovery efforts.
Kozack stated that it was too early to determine the scale of any IMF assistance as officials continued evaluating the country’s needs. The Fund maintained close contact with Venezuelan authorities post the disaster, focusing on assessing the economic impact and recovery needs for Venezuela.
When asked about emergency resources, Kozack mentioned that discussions were still in the early stages. Regarding Venezuela’s debt restructuring, she clarified that the IMF was not involved in the negotiations between the government and its creditors. The IMF stands ready to assist Venezuelan authorities as needed during the restructuring process.
