Imran Khan, founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former Prime Minister, expressed worry about the harsh treatment his wife, Bushra Bibi, is enduring in prison. Imran accused Pakistan’s judiciary of compromising its integrity and targeting his wife, stating that she faces inhumane treatment to pressure him. The former PM highlighted the isolation and limited contact his wife experiences in prison, emphasizing the need for justice and respect for women.
Imran and Bushra Bibi have been in custody since August 2023, currently held at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. Recently, Imran underwent a third eye procedure at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), raising concerns about the medical treatment provided in the absence of his family and personal doctors. The PTI party has demanded his transfer to Shifa International Hospital for comprehensive medical evaluations and treatment by his personal physicians.
Imran’s eye condition, right central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), came to light in January, with the government facing criticism for lack of transparency and alleged inadequate medical care. The opposition has accused the government of obstructing Imran’s access to his personal doctors, a claim the government has denied, emphasizing that proper medical care has been provided to the former Prime Minister.
