India A’s captain, Tilak Varma, praised his team’s resilience and unity after a 66-run victory over Sri Lanka A secured the tri-series title at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium. The Indian side, led by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s explosive 94 off 29 balls, coupled with disciplined bowling, sealed a dominant win. The Men in Blue staged a remarkable comeback after initial defeats, culminating in a final where they posted a formidable 377/9 and restricted Sri Lanka A to 311. Varma credited the team’s success to their experience and clear approach to each phase of the game. In the final showdown, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s record-breaking performance, including the fastest List A fifty in 11 balls, set the tone for India A. Supported by Priyansh Arya, the duo provided a solid opening stand. Varma, with a composed 67, anchored the innings, forming key partnerships to propel India A to a commanding total.
Despite the title victory, Varma acknowledged room for improvement in the bowling department. While pleased with the overall performance, he noted the need for enhancement in that area. The skipper highlighted the team’s talent and the learning opportunities presented, even in victory.
India A’s bowlers, led by Yash Thakur and Vipraj Nigam with three wickets each, along with Anukul Roy’s two wickets, delivered crucial breakthroughs in the final. Despite notable performances from Sri Lanka A’s Samarawickrama and Sahan, they fell short of the challenging target set by India A.
