India and Cambodia have expressed their commitment to enhancing bilateral defence cooperation during recent high-level military discussions in Phnom Penh. Major General Akaash Johar from the Indian Army met with Lt General Mao Sophan of the Royal Cambodian Army to discuss boosting joint military engagement, expanding training collaboration, and reinforcing defence ties. The focus was on increasing joint military exercises, broadening training cooperation, and improving coordination in the defence sector.
Both nations highlighted the importance of military capacity building, professional military education, and sharing operational experiences as crucial aspects of their collaboration. India aims to move beyond formal dialogues and implement practical cooperation with friendly countries. Cambodia praised the training standards and expertise of the Indian armed forces and expressed interest in sending more personnel for training and specialized courses in India.
The commitment to strengthening defence ties as a long-term strategic partnership for regional peace, stability, and security was reiterated by both sides.
