External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar engaged in bilateral discussions with Chilean counterpart Francisco Perez Mackenna to enhance cooperation across different sectors. Jaishankar expressed delight in meeting Mackenna and emphasized the need to diversify markets, promote exports, and facilitate the services economy. Both ministers agreed to collaborate closely in plurilateral and multilateral formats.
Mackenna, who began his seven-day official visit to India on May 9, highlighted the visit as an opportunity to bolster ties between Chile and India. The focus is on deepening the partnership, expanding trade and investment opportunities, and enhancing cooperation in various domains. Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal also participated in discussions with Chilean officials to review the progress of negotiations for the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
Goyal underscored the importance of strengthening bilateral trade, investment, and strategic cooperation between India and Chile. The discussions emphasized the commitment to expanding economic engagement and fostering people-to-people ties for mutual growth and prosperity. These dialogues occur as India actively pursues trade agreements with global partners to boost exports, attract investments, and diversify supply chains amidst global economic uncertainties.
In a separate event, Mackenna engaged in a roundtable discussion with Indian and Chilean business leaders to enhance trade and investment activities between the two nations.
