Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal stated that India and Chile have reviewed the progress of negotiations for the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and explored ways to enhance bilateral trade, investment, and strategic cooperation. Goyal shared that he engaged in discussions with Chile’s Foreign Minister Francisco Perez Mackenna and other members of the Chilean delegation during a breakfast meeting. The focus was on advancing trade, investment, and strategic ties between the two nations.
Goyal emphasized the significance of the enduring partnership between India and Chile, expressing a commitment to expanding economic collaboration and fostering people-to-people connections for mutual growth and prosperity. The talks between the two countries are occurring as India actively pursues various trade agreements with global partners to bolster exports, attract investments, and diversify supply chains amidst global economic uncertainties.
India has been keen on expanding its trade presence in Latin America, with Chile playing a crucial role as a partner in sectors like minerals, energy, agriculture, and services. The proposed CEPA is anticipated to improve market access, diminish trade barriers, and elevate bilateral investments between India and Chile. Additionally, the Indian government is intensifying efforts to position the country as a prominent global manufacturing and export hub, with recent engagements involving discussions with international industry leaders and officials to explore new trade and investment prospects.
