The Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav, along with Finnish counterpart Sari Multala, recently reaffirmed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on environmental cooperation between the two countries. The renewed MoU, originally signed in 2020, focuses on enhancing collaboration in pollution prevention, waste management, climate change, forests, and natural resource management through knowledge and technology exchange.
This agreement establishes a structured framework for sharing best practices in areas such as air and water pollution control, waste management including recycling and waste-to-energy, circular economy, low-carbon solutions, climate change mitigation, and environmental monitoring. Both nations also explored opportunities for joint initiatives in the circular economy during their discussions.
Sari Multala, accompanying Finnish President Alexander Stubb on his visit to India, participated in the ministerial delegation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Stubb recently held talks to broaden cooperation in digitalization, sustainability, clean energy, quantum computing, and semiconductors. They aim to deepen engagement in defense and space sectors as well.
