External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized the strategic partnership and spiritual connection between India and Mongolia during his meeting with Mongolia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Battsetseg Batmunkh. Highlighting the deep-rooted civilisational ties, shared democratic values, and strong people-to-people relations, Jaishankar underscored the significance of the bilateral relationship. Last year marked the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Mongolia, further solidifying their bond.
Reviewing the progress of discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mongolian President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh, Jaishankar focused on various aspects of bilateral cooperation. Notably, the construction of an oil refinery project in Dornogovi Province, supported by a substantial USD 1.7 billion soft Line of Credit from India, stands out as a key initiative. This project represents India’s largest soft Line of Credit endeavor globally, reflecting the depth of their partnership.
During his visit, Jaishankar engaged with key Mongolian officials, including the Speaker of the State Great Khural, Dashzegve Amarbayasgalan, and Mongolia’s Minister of Education, L. Enkh-Amgalan, among others. Expressing gratitude for their support in enhancing the India-Mongolia relationship, Jaishankar highlighted the importance of strengthening parliamentary exchanges and people-centric development initiatives. Additionally, he conveyed greetings from Indian leadership and discussed avenues for advancing cooperation across various sectors with President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh.
