India and Russia collaborated during the 14th meeting of the India-Russia Joint Working Group on Counter Terrorism (CT) to enhance cooperation and tackle issues related to violent extremism, radicalization, and terror financing. The meeting, co-chaired by Sibi George from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and Dmitry Lyubinsky from Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasized the condemnation of terrorism in all its forms, including cross-border terrorism.
Both countries denounced the terrorist attacks in Pahalgam and near Red Fort, calling for unified action against terrorist entities, including those identified by the UNSC 1267 Sanctions Committee. They also exchanged insights on combating terrorism and agreed to intensify cooperation in addressing challenges such as violent extremism, radicalization, terror financing, and the misuse of new technologies for terrorist activities.
The discussions encompassed current and emerging global and regional terrorist threats, with a mutual commitment to bolstering counter-terrorism collaboration in bilateral and multilateral forums like the United Nations, BRICS, and SCO. Plans were made to convene the next Joint Working Group meeting on Counter Terrorism in Russia at a mutually agreed-upon date.
The 13th meeting of the India-Russia JWG on counter-terrorism occurred in Moscow in November 2024, underscoring the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism through joint initiatives and partnerships.
