India and Rwanda have agreed to enhance their defence cooperation in military training, joint exercises, medical collaboration, and the defence industry. The 2nd India–Rwanda Joint Defence Cooperation Committee meeting took place in New Delhi on July 6-7, 2026. The meeting was co-chaired by Joint Secretary (International Cooperation) Shri Amitabh Prasad and Brig Gen Louis Kanobayire of Rwanda.
During the visit, the Rwandan delegation paid tribute to fallen soldiers at the National War Memorial in New Delhi. This gesture preceded the 2nd Joint Defence Cooperation Committee meeting between the two countries. Minister of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margherita, participated in Rwanda’s Liberation Day celebrations, marking the 32nd anniversary of the event.
The celebration in India, known as Kwibohora32, was attended by various dignitaries, including Indian government officials, members of the diplomatic community, Defence Attaches, civil society representatives, media personnel, corporates, and Rwandan community members. The event featured cultural performances by both Rwandan and Indian troupes.
Rwanda’s High Commissioner to India, Mukangira Jacqueline, addressed the attendees during the event. She acknowledged Minister Pabitra Margherita’s presence as the Chief Guest and expressed gratitude for his participation. High Commissioner Jacqueline highlighted Rwanda’s journey of liberation, resilience, and national transformation.
