India and Slovakia have enhanced their bilateral ties to a “Comprehensive Partnership,” marking a significant diplomatic milestone. During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s historic visit to Bratislava, both nations elevated their relationship status. This move is set to boost cooperation across various sectors, as emphasized by the Ministry of External Affairs.
The elevation of relations occurred during Prime Minister Modi’s inaugural visit to Slovakia since its independence in 1993. Prime Minister Modi engaged in extensive talks with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico at the Bratislava Castle. The leaders oversaw the signing of 11 agreements and Memorandums of Understanding, signifying a deepening of cooperation.
Addressing the media in Bratislava, MEA Secretary (West) Sibi George highlighted the transformative potential of this upgraded relationship. He stressed that the visit underscores India’s dedication to strengthening ties with Slovakia. This Comprehensive Partnership is expected to propel bilateral relations to new heights and explore fresh avenues for collaboration.
Both leaders acknowledged the strategic importance of the Indo-Pacific region, emphasizing the need for enhanced cooperation between India and Slovakia. They expressed support for regional connectivity, open international trade, and a rules-based global order. The leaders also committed to regular high-level exchanges, sustained political dialogue, and increased parliamentary cooperation to foster mutual understanding.
