India and Thailand are enhancing their strategic partnership by improving maritime, air, and road connectivity, as well as strengthening people-to-people ties and tourism connections. This was discussed in a meeting between India’s Ambassador to Thailand, Puneet Agrawal, and Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Phipat Ratchakitprakarn. The bilateral ties were elevated to a Strategic Partnership during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bangkok in April last year.

Agrawal also met with Urasa Mongkolnavin, Director-General of the Department of South Asian, Middle East, and African Affairs at Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Discussions focused on mutual interests to enhance the strategic partnership between the two nations, covering various areas such as high-level visits, trade, investment, people-to-people connections, public health, and traditional medicine.

Furthermore, Agrawal engaged in discussions with Thailand Trade Representative Chutintorn Gongsakdi at the Government House to strengthen trade and investment ties. The meeting aimed to identify areas of complementarities, resolve tariff and non-tariff barriers, and promote balanced trade for mutual benefit between India and Thailand.

In a separate meeting, Agrawal and Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow explored ways to deepen the strategic partnership. The discussions revolved around enhancing bilateral trade and investment ties, fostering religious, cultural, and people-to-people linkages, promoting connectivity initiatives, and coordinating on regional issues.
