India and the UAE convened the 7th Joint Committee on Consular Affairs meeting in New Delhi, focusing on enhancing collaboration in consular issues like mobility, extradition, and legal assistance. Both sides acknowledged the UAE’s efforts to safeguard the welfare of the Indian community residing there.
The meeting, co-chaired by Secretary Smt. Sripriya Ranganathan and Under Secretary Omar Obaid Mohammed Al Hesan Al Shamsi, emphasized the continuation of robust bilateral cooperation in consular affairs, aligning with the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan recently met to discuss strengthening their strategic ties further.
The leaders, in their third meeting in 2026, assessed the advancements in technology, trade, investment, energy, and defense cooperation. They also deliberated on regional and global matters of shared interest, emphasizing dialogue, diplomacy, and adherence to international law for sustainable peace and security in West Asia. Additionally, they advocated for unhindered navigation and trade through the Strait of Hormuz.
PM Modi extended an invitation to President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to participate in the upcoming BRICS Summit hosted by India, underscoring the deepening ties between the two nations.
