New and Renewable Energy Minister Pralhad Joshi and UK’s Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy inaugurated the India–UK Offshore Wind Taskforce. This taskforce, part of Vision 2035 and the Fourth Energy Dialogue, aims to lead and coordinate India’s offshore wind sector strategically. Joshi emphasized the practical cooperation pillars of ecosystem planning, infrastructure development, and financing for offshore wind projects.
Describing the taskforce as a “trustforce,” Joshi highlighted the collaboration’s potential to address real challenges in executing offshore wind projects. He stressed the importance of time-bound workstreams, measurable milestones, and visible progress tailored to Indian conditions. India has identified promising offshore wind zones off the coasts of Gujarat and Tamil Nadu, with initial projects supported by a Viability Gap Funding scheme.
Joshi underscored the synergy between offshore wind and India’s green hydrogen goals, noting the country’s achievements in green hydrogen production. He emphasized the role of offshore wind in providing renewable power to coastal industrial and green hydrogen clusters. India’s clean energy transition, marked by significant capacity additions in solar and wind energy, is set to benefit from offshore wind as a key component of its energy future.
