External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar praised the strong relationship between India and the UK, emphasizing the potential for a new, forward-looking partnership during a meeting with UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper in New Delhi. The meeting highlighted recent significant events in the bilateral ties, such as UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s visit to India and PM Narendra Modi’s visit to the UK.
Jaishankar noted the evolution of the India-UK relationship from historical and cultural ties to a modern collaboration focused on shared economic goals and advanced technology. He mentioned key achievements like the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) and the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, including the Defense Industrial Roadmap.
Discussing the India UK Vision 2035, Jaishankar and Cooper planned to cover areas like growth, technology, defense, energy, and education. The ministers aimed to strengthen the partnership further by addressing concerns related to resilient supply chains, trade, energy, food security, and economic stability. The meeting also aimed to explore opportunities in growth, technology, defense, security, climate, clean energy, and education.
Highlighting recent progress on the India UK Vision 2035, Jaishankar acknowledged milestones such as the CETA signing, the UK-India technology security initiative, the defense industrial roadmap adoption, the climate technology startup fund, and collaborations in offshore wind energy and education, including the arrival of UK universities in India.
