Pacer Gurnoor Brar, Prince Yadav, and left-arm spinner Harsh Dubey have received their first call-ups for India’s upcoming three-match ODI series against Afghanistan. The series is scheduled to take place in Dharamshala on June 14, Lucknow on June 17, and Chennai on June 20. The squad will be led by Shubman Gill, with Shreyas Iyer serving as the vice-captain.
Senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are part of the squad, pending fitness clearance. Rohit Sharma suffered a hamstring injury during the ongoing IPL 2026, while all-rounder Hardik Pandya is awaiting medical clearance due to back spasms that kept him out of recent IPL matches for the Mumbai Indians.
Ishan Kishan makes a return to the ODI team, displacing Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar mentioned that Rishabh Pant remains a crucial part of the Test squad. Prince Yadav’s impressive performance for Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2026, taking 16 wickets, earned him a spot in the ODI squad, with notable exclusions including Mohammed Siraj, Harshit Rana, Axar Patel, and Ayush Badoni.
The bowling options for India have been bolstered with the inclusion of Brar and Dubey. The pace unit comprises Brar, Prince, Arshdeep Singh, and Prasidh Krishna, while Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, and Dubey provide spin options. This selection is part of India’s preparations for the 2027 Men’s ODI World Cup.
