India is on track to finalize the first phase of its bilateral trade agreement with the United States as early as July, according to Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal. The ongoing negotiations between the two countries are progressing well, with efforts to address remaining issues. This development has heightened hopes for a breakthrough in the trade talks aimed at enhancing economic ties and market access for Indian exporters.
Goyal mentioned that discussions between Indian and US officials have made significant progress recently, indicating a positive momentum in the negotiations. The minister’s optimistic comments follow a series of engagements between the two nations, emphasizing the commitment to resolving differences and advancing the trade agreement.
Highlighting the active engagement between the US and India, Goyal revealed that a team of US trade officials visited New Delhi for extensive discussions with their Indian counterparts to move the negotiations forward. Both sides are actively working to bridge the gaps in the proposed agreement, focusing on achieving a mutually beneficial outcome. Goyal expressed confidence in finalizing the first phase of the trade pact by mid-July, emphasizing its importance in fostering deeper economic cooperation between the two countries.
The potential trade deal is viewed as a significant step in strengthening economic relations between India and the US, particularly in the current environment where diversifying supply chains and enhancing strategic partnerships are key priorities. If successful, the initial phase of the agreement could set the stage for a more comprehensive trade framework in the future.
