India and Australia have agreed to boost information sharing regarding regional terrorist threats, terrorist entities, and individuals. They aim to collaborate more effectively in countering violent extremism and terrorism across various sectors, including emerging technologies, terror financing, critical infrastructure, crowded spaces, the maritime domain, and online radicalization. This commitment was outlined in the Australia-India Joint Declaration on Defence and Security Cooperation.
Both countries have reiterated their joint vision of a peaceful world without nuclear weapons. They have affirmed their dedication to non-proliferation efforts and the pursuit of global, complete, non-discriminatory, and verifiable nuclear disarmament. Additionally, India and Australia have pledged to enhance cooperation with other Indo-Pacific partners, including through trilateral cooperation mechanisms and deeper engagement with partners under the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative.
Furthermore, the two nations have agreed to strengthen collaboration in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) to provide swift, coordinated, and sustainable disaster responses. This move underscores their shared commitment to regional peace, security, prosperity, and resilience. The cooperation includes initiatives such as information sharing, expert exchanges, joint HADR exercises, and participation in the Quad Indo-Pacific Logistics Network for civilian responses to major natural disasters.
In reaffirming their commitment to a free, open, peaceful, stable, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region, India and Australia emphasized the importance of upholding international law, respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity, and ensuring a secure maritime domain. They highlighted the significance of a rules-based architecture rooted in adherence to international law, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and a secure maritime domain based on the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). Both nations also expressed support for key regional forums such as the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), ASEAN, ASEAN-centred regional architecture, and the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) in addressing regional challenges.
