India is waiting for Bangladesh to respond promptly regarding the verification of over 2,680 cases of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants living in India. The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, mentioned that once the nationality of these individuals is confirmed, deportation can proceed under the existing bilateral agreements between the two countries. Jaiswal emphasized that all illegal immigrants in India will be handled according to the law.
The Ministry of External Affairs has referred more than 2,680 cases to Bangladesh for nationality verification. Jaiswal highlighted that some verifications have been pending for over five years. India is hopeful of a swift response from Bangladesh to facilitate the deportation process based on the bilateral arrangements in place. The MEA had recently urged Bangladeshi authorities to expedite the nationality verification process for a smooth repatriation of illegal immigrants.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed Eid-ul-Adha greetings to Bangladeshi Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and the people of Bangladesh. Modi expressed India’s readiness to enhance bilateral cooperation across various sectors with Bangladesh. He emphasized the deep-rooted partnership between the two nations, based on shared sacrifices, cultural similarities, and common goals of peace, stability, and growth. Rahman reciprocated the greetings and expressed optimism for further strengthening bilateral ties.
