India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, expressed his focus on creating a fresh team identity rather than just inheriting success. Following India’s historic back-to-back ICC Men’s T20 World Cup triumph, Gambhir stressed the importance of fearless and aggressive cricket in shaping the team’s new persona.
Jasprit Bumrah’s impressive 4-15 bowling performance led India to become the first team ever to secure consecutive Men’s T20 World Cup titles, clinching the trophy for a record third time. The victory unfolded in front of a massive crowd of 86,824 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Over the past three years, India has claimed three ICC titles, starting with the T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados under the leadership of Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid. Subsequently, they triumphed in the Champions Trophy against New Zealand and recently secured the T20 WC title for the third time.
Gambhir reflected on India’s sustained success, attributing it to the team’s fearless mindset and consistent performance against opponents. He highlighted the players’ commitment to establishing their own legacy by playing without the fear of failure, a strategy that has shaped a brand of cricket both the team and the nation can take pride in.
Sanju Samson’s explosive innings of 89 off 46 deliveries, featuring five fours and eight sixes, propelled India to a formidable total of 255/5, the highest ever in a T20 World Cup final. Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel (3-27) then dismantled New Zealand’s top order, restricting them to 159 runs in 19 overs to secure the title.
Gambhir commended the team’s fearlessness, emphasizing their collective mindset of not fearing defeat. He highlighted the shift in mentality within the dressing room, focusing on instilling a winning attitude. Gambhir credited the team’s transformation to a fearless approach, resulting in a brand of cricket that has garnered pride from the players and the nation alike.
