India has donated ship spares to the Seychelles Defence Forces, emphasizing New Delhi’s MAHASAGAR vision for security and growth across regions. The donation was made by Captain Sachin Kulkarni, Commanding Officer of INS Trikand, during the ongoing Exercise ‘Lamitye’ in Port Victoria. This donation signifies India’s commitment to inclusive, cooperative, and sustainable security measures.
Captain Kulkarni also met with Seychelles’ Chief of Defence Forces, Maj. General Michael Rosette, to discuss INS Trikand’s involvement in the exercise. The joint military exercise ‘Lamitiye-2026’ involves Indian Armed Forces and Seychelles Defence Forces and is taking place at the Seychelles Defence Academy until March 20. This exercise, which means ‘friendship’ in Creole, has been a biennial event since 2001.
The current edition of the exercise is significant as it involves all three services of the Indian Armed Forces. Personnel from the Assam Regiment, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force, along with INS Trikand and a C-130 aircraft, are participating. The exercise aims to enhance cooperation, interoperability, and bilateral military relations, focusing on sub-conventional operations and peacekeeping operations.
Jointly, both sides are conducting tactical drills in semi-urban environments to neutralize potential threats. The exercise includes field training exercises, combat discussions, case studies, and demonstrations, culminating in a validation exercise. The Ministry of Defence highlighted that this exercise will strengthen mutual understanding and jointness between the troops of both nations.
