India provided two Personal Watercrafts (PWCs) and safety gear to the Sri Lanka Coast Guard to bolster their near-shore Search and Rescue (SAR) capabilities. The equipment handover took place at the Sri Lanka Coast Guard Headquarters in Mirissa, with the Defence Advisor of the High Commission officiating the ceremony. Additionally, as part of its humanitarian efforts, India recently gifted two BHISM cubes to Sri Lanka, aimed at enhancing emergency medical response.
India’s assistance extended further as state-of-the-art portable medical units, capable of handling up to 200 emergency cases, were delivered to Sri Lanka. These medical units, equipped with essential medicines and surgical tools, were transported by the Indian Navy diving support and submarine rescue vessel, INS Nireekshak, which arrived at the port of Colombo for the IN-SLN DIVEX 2026 exercise.
The INS Nireekshak crew engaged in a yoga session with the Sri Lanka Navy, emphasizing shared maritime cooperation and well-being at sea. The IN-SLN Diving Exercise (DIVEX) signifies the strong maritime partnership between India and Sri Lanka, highlighting mutual commitments to stability and growth in the Indian Ocean Region. In a gesture of further maritime security collaboration, the Indian Navy will also provide 50,000 rounds of 9 mm ammunition to the Sri Lankan Navy.
