India and Egypt emphasized the significance of their collaboration in combating terrorism during the 5th meeting of the Joint Working Group on Counter Terrorism. The meeting, which took place in New Delhi on May 20, was co-chaired by senior officials from both countries’ relevant ministries. Both nations strongly denounced recent terrorist attacks and called for holding perpetrators accountable.
The officials from India and Egypt condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, J&K, on April 22, 2025, and the incident near Red Fort, New Delhi, on November 10, 2025. Egypt reiterated its support for India in combating terrorism that threatens the country’s security and stability. Both sides agreed on the need for coordinated and comprehensive efforts to combat terrorism effectively.
India and Egypt pledged to enhance multilateral cooperation in counter-terrorism efforts across various platforms such as the UN, BRICS, FATF, and GCTF. They also discussed strategies to strengthen the Global Counter-Terrorism Forum (GCTF) and reiterated their commitment to finalizing the UN Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism (CCIT) at the earliest.
The two countries addressed a wide array of security challenges, including issues like terrorist recruitment, technological exploitation for terrorist activities, and terrorism financing. They expressed concerns over the growing use of drones, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and artificial intelligence (AI) by terrorists. India and Egypt explored avenues for collaboration in training, capacity building, cyber security, judicial cooperation, and sharing best practices through bilateral and multilateral initiatives.
India and Egypt agreed to convene the next Joint Working Group meeting on Counter Terrorism in Egypt at a mutually convenient time.
