India has criticized the United Nations for overlooking the human rights violations in Pakistan, especially in the Kashmir region it controls, while condemning similar actions elsewhere. India’s Permanent Representative P. Harish highlighted Pakistan’s suppression of rights in occupied Kashmir and across the nation, noting the lack of attention from the UN. At a Security Council Open Debate, Harish emphasized the ongoing repression in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, exposing what he called the true nature of the Pakistani state.

Pakistan raised the Kashmir issue at the Security Council debate, prompting India to point out the continuous violation of basic rights and freedoms of Kashmiris in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. Harish mentioned that these actions are part of a longstanding strategy by the Pakistani establishment in the region for nearly eight decades. He also highlighted the brutal crackdown on Kashmiris advocating for their rights, resulting in the deaths of at least 34 individuals by Pakistani security forces since June.

Harish further criticized Pakistan for imprisoning leaders, including a former prime minister, and outlawing the main opposition party. He noted the imprisonment of former Prime Minister Imran Khan on what critics claim are false charges to hinder his political involvement. Harish also condemned Pakistan’s military for consolidating power through constitutional amendments, eroding democratic principles in the country.

India reiterated its stance that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India, emphasizing that Pakistan’s occupation of Indian territory remains a significant issue. Harish urged Pakistan to address internal challenges instead of fabricating narratives to mislead the international community. He stressed that the reality is the illegal occupation of Indian territory by Pakistan.
