India is gearing up for the Davis Cup Qualifiers Round 1 match against the Netherlands on 7-8 February. The national team is currently in a rigorous training camp at the S.M. Krishna Tennis Stadium in Bengaluru, under the supervision of captain Rohit Rajpal.
Players Karan Singh and Rithvik Bollipalli have already begun their training sessions, with Sumit Nagal, Dhakshineswar Suresh, and Yuki Bhambri set to rejoin the team in Bengaluru today. The team is intensifying its preparations for the crucial home match.
Ranked No. 33 in the Davis Cup nations standings, India will face a formidable Dutch team ranked No. 6 globally. The Dutch team was the runner-up at the 2024 Davis Cup Finals. However, India draws inspiration from their historic victory over the Netherlands in Jaipur in February 1996, led by Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi.
Captain Rohit Rajpal, who took over as India’s Davis Cup captain in 2019, is optimistic about the upcoming match. He emphasized the importance of early preparation and ensuring that all players peak at the right time to deliver their best performance. Rajpal aims to replicate the success of the past and secure a victory against the Dutch team.
Indian tennis legend Mahesh Bhupathi also extended his support to the team, recalling the memorable victory over the Dutch in 1996. He encouraged the team to stay focused and fight hard in the upcoming Davis Cup tie. The Indian team’s confidence is high following their impressive 3–1 victory against Switzerland in September 2025 during the World Group I tie.
As the Indian team continues its intensive practice sessions, the upcoming match against the Netherlands promises to be a thrilling encounter. With the overall score tied at 2-2, both teams are gearing up for a competitive showdown in the Davis Cup Qualifiers.
