As India prepares to host the Commonwealth Games 2030 and bids for the Olympic and Paralympic Games 2036, Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya highlights the importance of hosting international competitions. Cities like New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, and others are evolving into international sports hubs, showcasing India’s sporting infrastructure.
India has successfully organized 36 international sporting events across 15 cities from January 2025 to June 2026. These events, including World Championships, Asian Championships, and World Cups, covered various sports like athletics, hockey, badminton, and more. Hosting these competitions not only boosts India’s global standing but also benefits Indian athletes by providing exposure and reducing the financial burden of overseas participation.
Mandaviya emphasizes that hosting international events is crucial for India’s sports ecosystem. It enhances the nation’s reputation, benefits athletes, and strengthens technical expertise. With 11 more international competitions scheduled from July to December 2026, including the Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships and World Snooker Championships, India’s sporting calendar remains packed. The country has also secured hosting rights for major events in 2027 and 2028, signaling its growing confidence in the global sporting arena.
