India is currently engaged in discussions with the United States to secure access to Anthropic’s Project Glasswing for enhancing the cybersecurity testing of its crucial digital infrastructure. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) Secretary S. Krishnan mentioned during the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Cybersecurity Summit that leveraging this advanced AI model would allow India to rigorously test its digital systems against cutting-edge artificial intelligence capabilities.
Krishnan highlighted the ongoing efforts to obtain access to Project Glasswing from American counterparts, emphasizing the importance of stress-testing Indian systems on Anthropic’s platforms. Despite these negotiations, India has already initiated the testing of critical systems using existing AI models to ensure cybersecurity preparedness.
Approximately 60-70% of cybersecurity testing activities can be conducted using the current AI models available to India, while conversations with the US regarding Project Glasswing access are still in progress. In April, Anthropic, a US-based AI company, unveiled Project Glasswing, a collaborative initiative involving major tech players like Amazon Web Services, Google, Microsoft, and others, aimed at fortifying global software security.
Moreover, in response to rising cybersecurity concerns, Apple is reportedly expediting the deployment of software updates to enhance user security, given the increasing sophistication of cyber threats facilitated by artificial intelligence. Apple’s proactive approach involves releasing software updates sooner than usual to address vulnerabilities and bolster user protection.
Krishnan’s statements align with India’s broader strategy to reinforce cyber resilience in light of the evolving capabilities of artificial intelligence in identifying vulnerabilities within digital infrastructure.
