India is expected to support the development of Indonesia-specific Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs, and Indonesia plans to procure India’s Astra air-to-air missiles. The Astra missile, developed by DRDO, is a Beyond-Visual-Range Air-to-Air Missile used by the Indian Air Force and Navy.
Indonesia also aims to expand its inventory of BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, with India likely to provide additional missile batteries. The BrahMos missile, known for its speed and range, is considered the world’s fastest operational supersonic cruise missile. Plans for joint development of Sabang Port, a crucial deep-water port, are on the agenda. The port’s strategic location near India’s Great Nicobar port enhances maritime cooperation between the two nations.
To bolster the critical minerals supply chain, India plans to invest in manufacturing steel, nickel, and rare earth permanent magnets in Indonesia. Prime Minister Modi’s discussions with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto focused on energizing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, covering energy, trade, maritime cooperation, and defense. The leaders are expected to emphasize defense, maritime partnerships, critical minerals, food security, and the digital economy during their meeting.
