India stated that the arrest of six Ukrainian nationals is under investigation by government agencies as a legal issue. The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson mentioned that consular access requests for the arrested individuals have been received from the Ukrainian Embassy.
The arrested individuals, including an American and six Ukrainians, are facing charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and have been remanded to 11-day custody by a special NIA court in Delhi. The Ukrainian Embassy in India expressed concern over the detention, labeling it as “orchestrated and politically motivated.”
The Embassy emphasized that Ukraine rejects any insinuations of state involvement in supporting terrorism and expressed readiness for cooperation with Indian authorities. Ukraine expects the legal process to be transparent and in line with international law, ensuring the rights of the detained citizens are respected.
The Embassy further clarified that Ukraine is committed to enhancing security cooperation with India and has no interest in activities that threaten India’s security, advocating for strengthened ties between the two nations.
