India has cautioned its citizens seeking jobs on commercial ships in the Black Sea region to carefully evaluate the security threats before committing to such roles. The Ministry of External Affairs emphasized the high volatility of security in the area due to ongoing conflicts, advising extreme caution for those considering employment there.
The Ministry highlighted the significant security risks faced by commercial vessels in the Black Sea, including missile and drone attacks. Recent incidents have tragically led to the loss of five Indian lives, prompting the MEA to urge individuals to gather detailed information from employers about routes, security measures, insurance, and emergency protocols.
In response to the escalating risks, the MEA recommended that Indian nationals ensure their employment terms align with international maritime standards, offering provisions for medical care, evacuation, repatriation, and emergency compensation. It also stressed the importance of keeping families informed about travel plans and maintaining regular communication, with consular assistance available through the Indian Embassy if needed.
To enhance safety, the Ministry advised adherence to advisories from relevant Indian authorities and maritime agencies, particularly referencing the recent Security Advisory from the Directorate General of Maritime Administration. India expressed condemnation for attacks on commercial vessels, emphasizing the critical need to safeguard maritime navigation and global commerce.
