India has emerged as a frontrunner in adopting artificial intelligence (AI), with 41% of employees using AI almost daily, according to a report by ADP Research. Around 80% of Indian employees utilize AI at least several times a week, marking the highest frequency among all surveyed markets. Comparatively, only half of the global workforce surveyed uses AI multiple times a week, with Nigeria (39%) and Vietnam (36%) trailing India in daily AI usage.
The report also highlights a growing disparity between AI adoption and perceived productivity. While 30% of daily AI users reported high engagement levels, they were four times more likely than non-users to feel less productive. As AI automates routine tasks, employees find it challenging to quantify and assess their contributions, leading to uncertainties about career progression.
Rahul Goyal, the managing director of ADP India and Southeast Asia, emphasized that high AI adoption rates do not automatically translate to increased productivity. Many employees harbor concerns about the impact of AI on their careers and the difficulty in evaluating their contributions. Goyal stressed the importance of organizations investing in enhancing employee adaptability rather than just efficiency to succeed in the evolving landscape.
Regular use of AI is associated with higher engagement levels and reduced stress, with daily users reporting lower mental stress (11%) compared to non-users (23%). Moreover, daily AI users exhibit greater confidence in job security, indicating a strong correlation between frequent AI utilization and job assurance. Interestingly, women in India are utilizing AI more frequently than men, with 44% incorporating AI into their daily work routines compared to 40% of men.
