India has emerged as a top market for workplace AI adoption, with 70% of frontline AI users in the country saving at least one full workday weekly, according to a report by Boston Consulting Group (BCG). This figure marks the highest among all markets surveyed. Additionally, 96% of respondents noted that AI has already impacted skills expectations significantly.
The report also revealed that India boasts the highest level of AI-driven job satisfaction globally, with 88% of frontline employees reporting increased enjoyment and satisfaction at work post AI adoption. However, globally, most organizations are struggling to translate AI-led benefits into tangible business value, with 66% of regular AI users receiving limited or no guidance on utilizing saved time for strategic work.
AI adoption among frontline employees has seen a global surge of over 20% in the past two years, reaching 74%. Notably, India and the Middle East are leading in this adoption trend, while the US, France, and Italy are trailing behind. Furthermore, the survey indicated that 47% of respondents now spend more time managing and directing AI than performing actual work, with 72% feeling significant changes in skills expectations due to AI adoption.
Moreover, in India, 86% of frontline employees believe that AI agents could handle at least half of their job within three years, surpassing the global average of 52%. Despite this progress, governance, oversight, and accountability in AI adoption still lag behind the rapid pace of adoption across various markets.
Nipun Kalra, India Leader at BCG X, highlighted India’s rapid adoption of AI, stating that the country is well-positioned to set the global standard for AI-powered enterprises as organizations transition from adoption to deliberate transformation. The survey also noted a growing integration of AI agents into workflows globally, with 30% of respondents reporting their integration, marking a two-fold increase from the previous year.
